Classic Short Stay Villas in Lonavala

But in spite of all this, almost every holidaymaker from Mumbai and Pune hits Lonavla at least twice a year. Because truth be told, it is a wonderful place to explore the ancient caves in Karla and Bhaja from, and to take in the surrounding ghats, lakes and countryside. And hey, it’s just 2 hours away from Mumbai and an hour away from Pune! And if that isn’t enough incentive, Cooper’s Fudge is still only available in Lonavla!

Break by the Lake
The sun rising in a flurry of gold and red ribbons. Birds on wing and song conducting an impromptu orchestra. A wicker basket brimming with freshly baked breads and other favourites. A butler at hand to ensure impeccable service. And lakeside locations that have been hand-picked for memorable breakfasts. Our Break by the Lake is truly an experience to be savoured and is available:
Arthur Lake, Bhandardara and Mulshi Lake.
In Peak form
Mount Kalsubai – the highest peak in Maharashtra – is an imposing presence in the Bhandardara region, rising to a height of almost 5500 feet. Blanketed by the green wilds of the Harishchandragadh Sanctuary, this peak is a trekkers’ paradise. Yash Resorts by Cotton Stays is the perfect launchpad for this hike. Our suggestion: stay a day at the Resort before starting your hike and then stay another day after completing it. After all, an ascent like this calls for a celebration.
Fish to Dish
How fresh do you like your fish? You have probably heard of farm to fork; think of our lunchtime special – Fish to Dish – as net to table.
It all starts on the banks of Arthur Lake, Bhandardara or Mulshi Lake (depending on which of our resorts you are staying at). There, you can watch an experienced, local fisherman wade into the Lake and catch fish in a mode unique to the locals. The sweet fish, fresh from the waters, can be cooked at the lakeside by local villagers using traditional methods and spices, or if you prefer, it can be ferried to the and served the way you like it by our chefs for lunch or dinner. Either way this meal is a winner.
SPLASH OF BLUE
Arthur Lake glimmers like a sparkling blue jewel in a forest of emerald. Just minutes away from Cotton Stays Bhandardara,
this lake – set amid shaded woods – is a man-made reservoir that was built as a companion piece to the mighty Wilson Dam.
At the lakefront, you will find a profusion of paddle boats and a handful of motorised boats to explore the serene blue waters in.
Hikes without hitches
The hike to Mount Kalsubai (that we have mentioned elsewhere) is a fairly tough trek; one that beginners might struggle with. But fret not; we also have a number of other easier hiking trails that even first-timers can attempt. Like the one from Cotton Stays Malshej to the surrounding hills; the one from Cotton Stays Lonavla to Rajmachi and the one from to Arthur Lake and many, many others. Suffice it to say that when it comes to hikes, at Cotton Stays we truly walk the talk.
900 years of faith
The Amruteshwar Temple – an intricately carved Shiva temple in Bhandardara – is one of the finest examples of the ancient Hemadpanthi style of Temple Architecture. Built in 1100 AD, this Temple is almost sculptural in its stone-cut beauty. The monsoons make the journey to this Temple even more divine as one can actually take a boat and skim across Arthur Lake right to the entrance of the Temple.
Walk on the wild side
The Harishchandragadh Sanctuary coats the rugged Sahyadris with a thick cloak of green. As the famous poem goes, these woods are lovely, dark and deep, and as the poem definitely doesn’t go, we organise special jeep trips – manned by former forest rangers – from Yash Resorts by Cotton Stays for wildlife enthusiasts. One can spot wolves, jackals, foxes, civets, wild boars, barking deer, sambars, monitor lizards, fan-throated lizards, turtles and leopards here (PS. The leopards, of course, are already spotted 🙂
The Village Life
One experience that is truly steeped in the local culture of Bhandardara is our ‘Day in the Life of a Village’. It starts with a bullock cart ride from to a nearby village farm. Once there, you will get to help the farmer in his daily tasks which could include milking cattle, irrigating land, drawing water from the family well, etc. The reward for all your hard work: a simple, wholesome meal, cooked in the farmer’s own kitchen and savoured alongside his family followed by a lively folk dance performed by a troupe from the village.
We have given Luxury Glamping an extra dimension: a vast lake as a neighbour. The glamping site at is perched right on the banks of Lake Mulshi. Come, get enchanted by the lapping waters of the lake, the chirping of wading birds, the putt-putt of small boats, the starlit skies at night, the aromas of lakeside barbeques and the plush facilities within our luxury tents.
A private plateau
Though Malshej is incredibly scenic, it has acquired an unsavoury reputation because of the many rowdy elements that frequent it. We have reserved a tableland far from the madding crowds but close to misty clouds for all those who want to experience the rustic, rugged charms of Malshej. is a car-free resort that can be reached from our private parking lot by means of what we call ‘The Selfie Trail’ – a series of rock-cut steps that frame gorgeous views. Spacious rooms, finger-licking local cuisine, total privacy and the most breathtaking panoramas make Cotton Stays Malshej a must-visit.

Dear Bikers. We know that your code is the road. And we also know that yours is a kinship that has gone the distance. Think of our resorts as a home away from home for your gleaming visions in chrome. Take your pick from the wooded wilderness of Bhandardara; the serene shores of Lake Mulshi; a private plateau in Malshej; a cluster of cottages in Karjat; and a set of four Portuguese-influenced bungalows in Lonavla. Park with us on your next trip.
That brat pack. Those teacher’s pets. The ‘outstanding’ students. The guys who always went to the loo when it was their turn to foot the bill. The Einsteins. The tubelights. Who doesn’t have incredible memories from school and college? Relive them on your next reunion with us. We have Cotton Stays at Bhandardara, Mulshi, Malshej, Lonavla, Karjat and Hinjewadi. And all of them are a class apart.
Bonfires and BBQs
One of the great joys of life is sitting around a big fire swapping stories, telling jokes, finding out how many people believe in ghosts, meeting old friends and making new ones. Preferably while some delicious food is being grilled and barbecued just around the corner. At Cotton Stays, we love spreading this kind of warmth. Just a word of advice (ok, actually some words of advice): Do this before the monsoon arrives.
Imagine a destination wedding where guests can go glamping by a vast lake? Or one where they can experience a forest aglow with fireflies? Or one where the entire resort (made up of contemporary cottages crowned with thatched roofs) is reserved just for them? Or even one where the guests can actually create their own personalised gifts for the bride and bridegroom? Sounds wonderful, doesn’t it? Get in touch with us to know more >>
Headed for Shirdi? Here’s a divine way to end your pilgrimage: a relaxed, all-meals-included stay at Yash Resorts by Cotton Stays at Bhandardara. What’s more, if you haven’t travelled in your own vehicle, we can even arrange to pick you (and your loved ones) up from Shirdi if you reserve at least three rooms with us (Puneet, please feel free to change this offer). Just like the darshan at Shirdi, the natural beauty of Bhandardara too will soothe your soul.
Hand crafted experiences
Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could mould a holiday with arts and crafts at its soul? Well, we are glad to say that now you can. A stone’s throw from Hinjewadi (less than 45 minutes away from Pune city) sits a charming Cotton Stays resort dedicated to creativity. This gathering of artists and artisans is the perfect place to learn pottery; do a course in bamboo-making; brush up on your artistic skills; try your hand at sculpture; and discover a whole lot more. Programs available include day courses as well as long-term ones.
A forest of fireflies
William Blake had once penned these immortal lines: Tyger, tyger, burning bright, in the forest of the night. In Bhandardara, the tyger has been replaced by millions of fireflies. Who arrive every year, just before the monsoons do. And transform the dense woods into a forest of light every night. This magical experience will light up your holiday and probably give you a year’s worth of incredible Instagram pics. Cotton Stays Bhandardara is perfectly placed to help you see the light.
Where Rummy meets Yummy!
We are laying our cards on the table. We have wonderful getaways (with all meals and stay included) on weekdays for large groups to rush to nearby Lonavla or Karjat for rousing rummy sessions and games of Housie. What’s more, we can even provide a luxury vehicle to take you to the destination and back and pack your stay with tons of fun. So say goodbye to those same old boring city restaurants and come down to Lonavla or Karjat for your next weekly session.
Rush of Adrenaline
And by rush, we truly mean rush. Cotton Stays at Mulshi Lake is just a few kilometres adrift of Maharashtra’s most exhilarating whitewater rafting destination. Our resort offers curated rafting experiences that include preferential pricing for all those staying with us. Drop by. We’ll help you go with the flow.
